What is precision medicine?
Precision medicine is a medical approach that uses a person’s health information, including genetic information such as their DNA, to identify the most effective treatment. Precision medicine allows doctors to select treatments that are more likely to succeed, reduce side effects, and improve the quality of medical care based on your personal situation.”
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?
Precision medicine approaches emphasize that “one size does not fit all.” Genetic variations, combined with lifestyle and environmental factors, influence susceptibility to disease and response to treatments.
The Texas A&M Center for Genomics and Precision Medicine was founded with the goal of advancing personalized medicine, with a positive impact on both individual healthcare and public health.
Ongoing Studies
IPGx Registry
Intended for patients currently taking 5 or more medications, the goal of the IPGx Registry study is to collect and analyze the patient's genetic information for areas of improved medication management. The findings of these analyses are linked directly with your electronic health record, so that this analysis can support your health care for years to come.

TREC Registry & Repository
Most cancer research uses samples from people who already have cancer. This limits how we can study how to prevent it. The TREC Registry & Repository wants to fix this by collecting biological samples from people who are more likely to get cancer in the future. This study will collect things like blood, saliva, and DNA samples, as well as information about the person's health history. Contributing to this registry can help lead to new ways to stop cancer before it starts

-
Currently, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian individuals are not well represented in precision medicine databases.
-
The lack of participation in research limits the ability of precision medicine to develop specific treatments for our community.
-
Participating in biobanks contributes to improving treatments tailored to the needs of people with different ancestries.
